In celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Uemura Shoen, who rose to fame due to her bijinga (paintings of beautiful women), the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka will hold Uemura Shoen: A Retrospective from March 29 to June 1, 2025.
The show presents the artist’s achievements by exhibiting her major works. It provides an opportunity to reassess the true value of the art of Uemura Shoen, who was the first female artist to be awarded the Order of Cultural Merit, and who left an indelible mark on the history of art in the modern era.
