COLLECTION SUMMARY

Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka holds a collection of approximately 7000 works (as of April 2026; excluding deposited works), comprising around 5700 pieces and purchased works. Our collection focuses on representative works of art from Japan and abroad, spanning from the late 19th century to the present day, whilst also highlighting the rich artistic activity that has flourished here in Osaka.

The collection spans a wide range of fields, including Western-style paintings by Japanese artists, nihonga (Japanese-style painting), modern art from abroad, contemporary art, prints, photography, sculpture and design.

Including notable works by Saeki Yuzo, a nude painting by Amedeo Modigliani, works by Yoshihara Jiro, the leader of the Gutai Art Association, and representative works by international artists, the collection is highly regarded both in Japan and abroad.

Loans are made to other facilities; to date, over 3,000 works have been exhibited at more than 800 museums in Japan and abroad.

The deposit of the Suntory Poster Collection (comprising 18000 works) in 2012, alongside the museum’s existing collection of furniture and tableware, resulted in the formation of one of the world’s leading design collections.

We intend to continue enriching our collection in the future.
