The Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka will hold Trio: Modern Art Collections from Paris, Tokyo and Osaka from September 14 – December 8, 2024 as part of the museum’s third anniversary celebrations.
This exhibition adopts an experimental approach, presenting trios consisting of artworks with shared traits, with each trio including artworks from the collections of three museums—Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka, Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris, and the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo. Conceived through free thinking, each trio focuses on different traits, exploring shared characteristics such as subject or motif, color or shape, materials, or the underlying circumstances surrounding the creation of the art, while spanning different eras, schools of art, and locations throughout the world. The show provides a fresh way of viewing and bringing out the charm and appeal of modern art, ranging from the early twentieth century to the current day. Divided into seven chapters based on particular themes and concepts, it presents thirty-four trios incorporating some 150 works, including paintings, sculptures, prints, sketches, photographs, designs, and videos, by a total of 110 artists.
