Modern and contemporary artworks and materials related to Osaka
Osaka is a place where artists such as Koide Narashige, Akamatsu Rinsaku, Kitano Tsunetomi, and Kitani Chigusa were very productive, leaving us with superb works of art. Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka is opening in near, the former location of Gutai Pinacotheca, the main center and exhibition space of the Gutai Art Association, often referred to simply as Gutai, one of the leading artistic movements of postwar Japan. Our collection includes many works by the group’s leader, Yoshihara Jiro, and other Gutai members. Other works by outstanding artists based in Osaka and the Kansai area and contemporary Japanese artists active throughout the world also rank as important collections. We will continue to advance research related to art in modern-day Osaka and communicate the value of these artists and their work to future generations.
