The Nakanoshima Museum of Art, Osaka will hold Daigoji Temple: Celebrating the 1,150th Anniversary of a National Treasure, the first large-scale exhibition in Osaka of famous treasures from Daigoji Temple, from June 15 – August 25, 2024.
This exhibition consists of three themes related to Daigoji Temple’s history and art—a temple in the mountains, a center for the shuho rites of esoteric Buddhism, and a guardian of Momoyama culture. It presents precious temple treasures that have been passed down through the ages since the temple’s establishment, such as the national treasure Monju Tokaizu (Monju crossing the sea) and the Important Cultural Properties Fudo Myo-o Zazo (Seated statue of Fudo Myo-o) by Kaikei and Bugaku Dancers by Tawaraya Sotatsu.
